Ford’s most popular electric crossover is getting a little bit of the classic Mustang style. The California Special treatment is officially coming to the 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, and it’s something the company has never done before.

Say hello to the California Special Ford Mustang Mach-E 2026

The Mustang Mach-E is still one of the most popular electric cars in the US, but Ford is making it even better for the 2026 model year.
On Monday, the car company showed off the 2026 Mustang Mach-E GT California Special. This was the first time the famous package was available on an electric SUV.

A Legacy Reimagined

California dealers wanted to build on the Mustang’s huge success, so they came up with the California Special in 1968. There were just over 4,000 original units made. They were known for their bold red and black accents and unique design.

Ford is bringing back that heritage for 2026, but this time it’s with an electric twist.
The new design package will be on both the 2026 Mustang two-door and the Mach-E GT. This is the first time an electric vehicle will have the “California Special” badge.

Distinctive New Look

Both models will debut a new Rave Blue exterior color, which Ford describes as “the cornerstone of the California Special package.”

Key styling highlights include:

  • 20-inch carbonized gray wheels with a GT/CS badge
  • An illuminated Rave Blue pony emblem on the grille
  • A unique hood graphic inspired by the California coastline

“The hood design features the California Special wordmark with radiating sunset lines in gray and black, accented with blue to represent the ocean,” Taylor explained.

Refined Interior With Coastal Flair

The Mach-E GT California Special has a very high-end feel inside. It has:

Performance seats with Navy Pier ActiveX and Miko suede trim

A blue and silver stripe that reflects light runs across the seats and floor mats.

A Navy ActiveX centre console and steering wheel that match for a unified look

The end result is a cabin that looks both modern and like a classic Mustang.

Performance & Pricing

Under the hood — or rather, under the floor — the 2026 Mach-E GT California Special builds on the existing GT platform. Expect an EPA-estimated 280-mile range, 480 horsepower, and up to 700 lb-ft of torque.

The California Special package adds $2,495 to the GT’s base price of $53,395.
Ford will begin taking orders on October 22, with base Mach-E models starting at $37,795. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2026.

Ford’s EV Push Continues

The California Special’s arrival signals Ford’s deeper commitment to merging its muscle-car heritage with a new electric identity.

At the same time, Ford is offering steep discounts on current 2025 models — including the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning — with lease deals starting as low as $219 per month in select regions.

If you’ve been considering switching to an EV, now might be the ideal moment to explore what Ford has to offer.
